Amazon has unveiled a significant update to Alexa+, introducing a web-based chatbot interface that eliminates the need for dedicated hardware. The MOVE positions Alexa+ as a direct competitor to established AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and xAI's Grok.

The browser version, now available to early access customers, extends Alexa+'s functionality—including smart home control, calendar management, and reservation services—to any internet-connected device. A Prime membership tier priced at $15/month will follow the early access period.

This strategic shift mirrors Amazon's broader push into AI services, recalling its earlier (though discontinued) browser-based Alexa experiment in 2023. The update significantly lowers barriers to adoption by decoupling the service from proprietary hardware requirements.
